Raised in an orphanage in Tokyo, he struggled academically, failing the English proficiency exam and graduating from a technical high school, but later studied abroad and graduated from Harvard Graduate School after attending a Public Ivy school. Now a trilingual speaker of English, Spanish, and Japanese, he is a permanent resident of Mexico and Peru.
